Lightweight with a lil "heft" aka durability to it and super stretchy. Great to keep warm in light cold winds yet keeps you cooler in warm weather. This is a sweet jacket bought two of em in different colors. Only thing that would make it perfect are the inclusion of pit zippers.Soft shells are super versatile, they can be used to block sun (this hoodie is UFP 50), wind and they are water resistant (not water proof). Also, they can be used as a daily lightweight jacket, but, be aware that the jacket has extremely good breathability which in this case means low heat retention (less than a long sleeve cotton shirt). While the jacket is not waterproof like a regular hardshell jacket, it is far easier to use in daily life. Nylon hardshells make a lot of plasticly noise and feel like you are wearing a piece of paper, this Ferrosi softshell looks and feels good in almost every situation. The Ferrosi jacket, is made out of nylon with a bit of spandex, it is soft to the touch and doesn't make any sort of "nylon plasticly sound" when being wear. The construction is top notch with YKK zippers.I am 5'11, 150lb with chest size 36-36.5" and the Ferrosi small fits me very well, I just wish the torso would be an inch longer but nevertheless it is a good fit with room for a mid layer. Also, keep in mind that the sleeves are very long to protect the back of your hand when used with the thumbhole. The jacket seems to be perfect for traveling since it packs small (a little bigger than a nylon hardshell jacket), it is super lightweight and brings moderate protection to all kinds of weather. If I were expecting cool weather I would probably pack a light vest in my backpack and used both together in layers instead of carrying a bigger jacket. Another alternative is to get a Ferrosi Grid jacket which includes a light fleece lining while maintaining the same materials on the outside. The Ferrosi softshell has won awards for its weight, breathability, and weather resistance.I am 6'4", 190lb. My chest is 40" and arm length is 32-34in if I recall.I am returning a size Large, for Medium. Even with a couple layers, the large has just too much room. The medium however may be too tight.I've always had a problem with sleeves being too short, however Outdoor research is generous with sleeve length.Their sizing chart is very accurate. True to size. This is not an extreme weather outer layer. That's not what it's for. But for every other season and light rain and wind, active or not, you will be pleased with this product.I used to do my high output aerobic work in an R1 and if it got wet, I just dealt with it. The ferrosi is fantastic in that it insulates a bit but also breathers well and allows sweat to evaporate. A downpour will defeat it, however, and in that case I’d rather be in my R1 or a hard shell. In all, it’s a fantastic piece that fills a wide open gap in my mountain attire.Used it as a wind layer climbing mount baker. PerfectGreat product, light weight, stretchable and breathable with good wind resistance. Probably good for light showers but not heavy downpours.Jacket is awesome. Second one I’ve purchased. First one is black and without a hood on it, but then I got the coyote/fatigue with a hood. Only complaint with the second one is the cuffs seem a little loose or bigger than on the black one. Still an awesome jacket. Awesome enough my wife wants one now.Was looking for something to deal with cool, wet, windy Seattle weather. This is not a substantial jacket.
